Service Cycle

From Reception to Collection

Step 1 — Outpatient Services: Check-in and registration upon presentation of the donor’s official identification, along with initial guidance on blood donation.
Step 2 — Clinical Screening: An individual, confidential interview with a healthcare professional to assess the donor’s medical history, ensuring the safety of both the donor and the recipient.
Step 3 — Hematological Screening: Measurement of vital signs, weighing, and screening tests, including hemoglobin and hematocrit levels using the finger-prick test.
Step 4 — Blood Collection: The donation takes place in a safe, comfortable, and climate-controlled environment equipped with advanced technology and a continuous air-renewal system, which helps reduce germs and bacteria.
Step 5 — Storage Chamber: After collection, the blood bags are stored in a temperature-controlled storage chamber until they are shipped to their final destination.
Step 06 — Rest and Recovery: An air-conditioned room for donors to rest and receive care after donation, equipped with a reclining chair and professional supervision in case of discomfort or an adverse reaction.
Step 7 — Snack and Hydration: After donating, the donor is directed to an area where they receive a snack and guidance on how to stay healthy and well.
Step 08 — Donor Discharge: The service cycle at a mobile blood center unit lasts, on average, 40 minutes to 1 hour and follows the same safety standards as a stationary unit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions About the Eco X Mobile Blood Center Unit

Eco X develops mobile blood collection units that function as mobile blood centers: screening, collection, storage of blood bags, and donor recovery—all carried out in vans, minibuses, buses, or double-decker buses—for campaigns throughout Brazil.

What is a mobile blood collection unit?

It is a mobile blood center: a facility on wheels designed to bring blood collection services to different municipalities and regions. It includes the facilities and equipment needed to serve donors, from check-in and screening through collection and recovery.

What are the benefits of a mobile blood center?

The mobile blood collection unit brings blood donation closer to the public, expands the reach of blood drives, and allows the service infrastructure to be taken to different locations, ensuring comfort and organization at every stage.

Does Eco X develop custom projects?

Yes. Each project is custom-designed, with the layout, equipment, spaces, and workflows tailored to the specific needs and operations of each institution.

What types of spaces can make up the mobile unit?

The project may include areas for clinical screening, hematological screening, blood collection, blood bag storage, and donor rest and recovery, as well as an area for snacks and hydration.

How does donor care work?

The process includes check-in and registration, clinical screening, hematological screening, blood collection, storage of the blood bags, rest and recovery, a snack and hydration, and the donor’s departure.

Does the facility provide privacy during the clinical screening?

Yes. The project includes a space for individual, confidential interviews with healthcare professionals, allowing for a private review of the donor’s medical history.

Is the collection area air-conditioned?

Yes. The donation area is designed to ensure the comfort of both the donor and the staff, with climate control and an air treatment and ventilation system.

How does air exchange work in the unit?

The facility is equipped with an air treatment and recirculation system that operates independently of the HVAC system, providing continuous ventilation. The proposed design also includes active decontamination features.

How are blood bags stored after collection?

The bags are stored in temperature-controlled storage rooms until they are shipped to their final destination.

Does the facility have a recovery area for donors?

Yes. There is an air-conditioned room for rest and care after the collection, equipped with a reclining chair and facilities for professional monitoring.

Is the mobile unit accessible?

The proposed design includes an elevator for people with disabilities or limited mobility, facilitating access to the interior of the vehicle.

What technological and operational resources can be incorporated?

Features include satellite internet, a generator for energy self-sufficiency, refrigerated compartments, an air-renewal system, an external awning, and a stabilizer system to keep the vehicle steady. The configuration is determined based on the project.

What is the daily service capacity?

The project allows for the possibility of making 100 donations in a single day. The capacity for each operation should be determined based on the project, the team, and the institution’s service workflow.

How long does the donor consultation last?

The entire process takes, on average, between 40 minutes and 1 hour, including the pre-donation consultation, blood collection, and post-donation care.

Has Eco X developed units for other institutions?

Yes. Among the projects presented are facilities for Maringá, Pernambuco, the Federal District, Minas Gerais, Espírito Santo, Paraíba, Mato Grosso do Sul, Pará, Natal, and Mossoró.
